Art Auction is coming up!

I hope you had a wonderful May Long weekend. I sure enjoyed that it warmed up on Sunday!

A quick note about the blog. I've had some feedback about checking it on iPads/iPhones. I hear the font is small and in handwriting. After doing a few test runs, I think this may be a solution. If I load it on my iPad and zoom in too quickly, the page doesn't have time to fully load, and therefore stays in handwriting. However, if I wait until the page fully loads, that font goes back to normal. I would love feedback to see if this works for you. Thanks!

A Peek at the Week

Tuesdsay, May 19
I am in meeting for the afternoon, so students will have Ms. Anderson as our guest teacher.
We will be completing our individual projects for the Art Auction. We've been creating Chihuly inspired sculptures. Chihuly is famous for his amazing blown glass art. Feel free to check out the link below for a few videos about Chihuly, and remember to come check out your child's own Chihuly art at the Art Auction on Thursday!

This is part 1 of 4. The links to the others will be on the YouTube page. Enjoy!

We are doing Reader's Theatre this week!
Blog Bonus Question: Have your child write who is in their readers theatre group in their agenda. Ask them what play they are doing, and what it is about. What part are they reading?

Thursday, May 21
We have a new student teacher joining us! Stay tuned as I will introduce her more formally next week on the blog. She will be joining our classroom Monday-Thursday mornings almost until the end of the school year. We look forward to meeting her and having her as part of our classroom!

Art Auction Day: Check out the info below for more details.

Arts Alive Field Trip: We will be leaving the school after lunch recess and will return before the end of the day. I will be contacting our wonderful volunteers to confirm with them on Tuesday night.

Friday, May 22
At the end of last week we had caterpillars arrive. All this week we've been observing and documenting what is happening to our caterpillars. What a fun way to learn about insects and their life cycle!
We have a Yearbook this year! Check out the link below as this is your last day to order this wonderful keepsake!

Art Auction - A handout went home last week, but here is a little recap of that handout.

Date: Thursday, May 21, 2015
Time: 11:30am-1:00pm and 4:30pm-6:00pm
Where: In the gym
Why: Money from students art work will go the an organization called Free The Children. Earlier in the year the Grade 3-4 students did presentations on a few different organizations. Students voted, and Free the Children was the organization chosen for our fundraiser.
Note: Art Auction pieces will be purchased by donation. Art pieces sold for under $25 must be paid in cash. Items sold for over $25 must be purchased using cheque.

Here are a few pictures from our field trip to Peter and the Wolf last week. It was a wonderful performance, and I must say I was truly impressed with how well students behaved and were engaged in this field trip. We arrived at the show early, and waited for bussed for a little while after the show, however students did a great job of representing Park Meadows. They should be very proud of themselves!

What a neat experience to see live musicians! See if your child can remember some of the instruments used for the characters parts!

Last week I found what I thought to be some excellent information. Below is a link to tons of summer camps and activities that are happening in and around Lethbridge this summer. I know that next week the public library is coming to share their summer programs with us, and I thought this might have some good information for other activities for anyone who is interested.
