So Long, Farewell Jan 11-15

Week at a Glance
Monday, January 11, 2016
  • New words of the week introduced:
Grade 1: but, in, my, me, because, author
Grade 2: but, in, my, me, because (review), friends, went, made, name, small, author
Students try the words out for the first official time today in the "check up". We've talked lots about how it is important to try your best to stretch the word out today, but by Friday we will have worked on these lots at school, and hopefully at home too. This week students are encouraged to set a goal for how many they hope to get right on Friday when we check in again. Their word lists came home today; try and take a few minutes this week to go over these.

  • Genius in Me! This is the first Genius in Me for the new round. Students were given the choice between:
    1. Art and Drawing
    2. Gym Games
    3. Let's Play
    4. Building Things
    5. Chess and Math Games.

Each student made choices from 1-5 and today is the day they find out what Genius block they will be in over the next 5-6 weeks. Students were reminded there is a possibility they may not get into their first, or sometimes even their second choice. However we all decided our options are so excellent that anything will be wonderful! Be sure to ask your child which option they got into, and what they did on their first day!

I want to finish by saying a HUGE thank you to all the students and families I've had the incredible opportunity of working with this school year at Park Meadows. You've truly been an amazing group! As I take this time off to enjoy a new adventure in my own family, know that you will be in my thoughts often. I look forward to seeing you all around when I visit, or when I come back from my leave. Take care!
